The ECU Percussion Ensembles represent the core of the percussion program at East Central University. The Percussion Ensemble, made up of all percussion students who participate in the ECU band program, performs up to 4 concerts per academic year, focusing on both conducted and non-conducted chamber works from the 20th and 21st centuries. The Percussion Group is a select chamber ensemble comprised exclusively of music majors. This ensemble studies and performs non-conducted, advanced works for 2 to 6 performers. The Marimba Band is a unique ensemble that performs xylophone ragtime music of the 1920s. This group makes frequent appearances on campus, and at various organizational/corporate functions as featured entertainment. The ECU Percussion Ensembles are regular participants at both the Oklahoma Percussion Festival and the ECU Day of Percussion.
The ECU Steel Pan Ensemble is an outreach organization within the East Central University Music Program. The ensemble is based on the competition bands that originated in Trinidad and Tobago throughout the latter half of the 20th Century. Made up of undergraduate students who are studying in nearly every college in the University, the Steel Pan Ensemble is a diverse group with a variety of repertoire. Performing the traditional calypso and soca styles of Trinidad and Tabago as well as pop music, the group consists of 8-10 players and nearly 20 steel pans. The Steel Pan Ensemble plays at events on campus and in the greater Ada community. The type of event can vary from corporate dinners to national meetings and events throughout central Oklahoma. The ECU Steel Pan Ensemble is a versatile performing group that can meet the needs of any special event.
