A number of business and community volunteers are planning to read to youngsters in child care centers throughout Ada next week [APRIL 14-18] during the national Week of the Young Child, a time that honors young children and all those who make a difference in children's lives.

East Central University's Child Care Resource & Referral office has asked Ada to come together for children during the week that will be observed nationally from April 13-19.

"All young children need and deserve high-quality early learning experiences that will prepare them for life, and Ada has a great opportunity to do its part to help young children," said Cheryl Bell, coordinator of ECU's Child Care Resource and Referral. "Week of the Young Child is time to recognize the importance of early learning for all young children and to bring Ada together to help give all young children a great start."

The week also is a time to recognize the importance of early literacy and celebrate the teachers and policies that bring early childhood education to young children, she said. It provides an opportunity for early childhood programs across the country, including child care and Head Start programs, preschools and elementary schools, to hold activities to bring awareness to the needs of young children.

"Young children and their families depend on high-quality education and care, which help children get a great start, and bring lasting benefits to Ada," Bell said.
