The East Central University Department of Music will forming a summer community band with Monday rehearsals from 7 p.m.-8:30 p.m., May 16-June 20, in the Kennedy Band Hall of the Hallie Brown Ford Fine Arts Center.

That will be followed up by a concert, Sunday, June 26 at 3 p.m. in the Ataloa Theatre of the Hallie Brown Ford Fine Arts Center.

“Here’s your chance to blow out the cobwebs in that old horn in the attic and relive those fun-filled days of school band rehearsal,” said Dr. Allen Correll, director of bands and associate professor in the Department of Music and School of Fine Arts.

There is no cost to participate and everyone is welcome, according to Correll.

“We will be reading current light pop music through classics including Star Wars Heroes; Take on Me; Earth, Wind and Fire and more,” Correll said. “We will also be working with music by Grainger, Vaughn Williams, Jacob, Chance and others. You can check us out on our Facebook page at ECU Summer Community Band.”

The ECU Department of Music will also be forming a summer community jazz ensemble which will meet at 6 p.m. each Monday.
