East Central University is offering a Literacy Tutoring Program for children in kindergarten through eighth grades, who are struggling and in need of additional support with reading and literacy development.

The program will be conducted on Tuesdays and Thursdays, Feb. 12-April 23, from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

“The program offers intensive literacy tutoring in small groups, using developmentally appropriate instruction in a positive learning environment,” said Dr. Regina Smith, who along with David L. Smith, will oversee the program. Both are certified literacy specialists and assistant professors in ECU’s Education Department.

The tutors are teachers-in-training who will earn their teaching credentials within a year and will be supervised by certified teachers.

The cost is $60 for 40 sessions. For Tuesday only, it’s $40 for 20 sessions and for Thursday-only sessions it’s $40 for 20 sessions. A limited number of scholarships may be available.

For more information or to enroll contact ECU’s Center for Continuing Education at 580-559-5859 or online at www.ecok.edu/ce . Those wishing to enroll their children in person may go to Fentem Hall, Room 114, on the ECU campus during regular business hours.
