Flutist Dr. Brielle Frost, an orchestral musician, will perform a free concert at 7 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 20, in East Central University’s Faust Recital Hall.

ECU music students will be playing in a masterclass conducted by Frost, prior to the concert at 5:30 p.m., in room 158 of the Hallie Brown Ford Fine Arts Center. All are welcome to attend the masterclass as well.

Frost performed and taught at festivals and conventions such as the Festival Internacional Flautistas in Lima, Peru; Festival de Musica Contemporanea Brasileira in Campinas, Brazil; Puccini Festival; MahlerFest; Atlantic Music Festival; Aquila Summer Concert Series and Rocky Mountain Regional Meeting of the American Musicological Society.

As an orchestral musician, Frost is a substitute flutist with the Valley Symphony Orchestra and previously performed with the Steamboat Symphony Orchestra, Topeka Symphony Orchestra, Midland-Odessa Symphony Orchestra and Colorado Dance Theatre Company.

She has held the position of flute instructor of Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp in Twin Lake, Mich., where she has performed as a member of the Blue Lake Faculty Orchestra and Wind Ensemble.

In addition to teaching and orchestral performing, Frost is an active chamber musician and is a founding member of the Ambrosia Flute Trio (with ECU Assistant Professor of Woodwinds Nathaniel Berman and ECU’s Alexandra Aguirre, instructor of the flute), which presented musical works at the National Flute Association Convention in Las Vegas, Nevada in 2012 and in New Orleans in 2013.

Frost currently holds a lecturer position at the University of Texas-Rio Grande Valley where she teaches applied flute, methods courses, chamber music, flute choir, class piano and music appreciation. Prior to her appointment at UTRGV, she served on the faculty at Western State Colorado University.

Frost received a bachelor of music degree from the University of Northern Iowa, master of music degree and artist certificate from the University of Missouri-Kansas City and a doctor of arts degree from the University of Northern Colorado. Her passion for contemporary music can be seen in her dissertation, Theatrical Elements in Toru Takemitsu’s Voice and Karlheinz Stockhausen’s Zungenspitzentanz.
