Two events at East Central University on Friday [NOV. 12] will explore the world through international teas and desserts, entertainment by international students and a Gift Fair of artisans’ crafts from Ten Thousand Villages and gifts and sponsorships through the Alternative Gift Market.

The exotic teas and desserts will be prepared by ECU’s International Student Connection Club and will be served from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Stanley Wagner Ballroom in the Memorial Student Union. Music and dance from around the world also are on the program.

Tickets to sample teas and desserts are $10 for adults and $5 for ECU students with valid IDs and children age 12 and younger. Tickets are available at the ballroom on Friday or in advance at the Global Education Office, Room 160 in the Administration Building, or by calling 580-559-5622. Proceeds will benefit ECU’s international student scholarship fund and activities for international students.

The desserts will represent Albania, Japan, Spain, Argentina, Cameroon, Nepal, Vietnam, South Africa, Mexico, the Mediterranean, Israel and Brazil. The teas are Mediterranean, Nepalese, Ugandan, American and English teas.

Admission is free to the Gift Fair which will be held from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. in the North Lounge of the Memorial Student Union. It includes artisans’ crafts from Ten Thousand Villages and charity gift-giving and sponsorships from the Alternative Gift Market. Proceeds from both help impoverished people from around the world.

Ten Thousand Villages helps artisans around the world make a fair price on such arts and crafts as baskets, pottery, accessories and toys. The Alternative Gift Market offers ways to feed, offer health care, prevent diabetes and malaria and provide clean water to communities across the globe.

ECU’s Office of Global Education is sponsoring the evening of tea and desserts. The First Presbyterian Church of Ada sponsors the Gift Fair in partnership with the International Student Connection Club and the Global Education Program.
