East Central University will present its Jazz Ensemble Concert at 7:30 p.m., Monday, Oct. 12, in the Kennedy Band Hall of the Hallie Brown Ford Fine Arts Center.

The concert, which is free and open to the public, will be under the direction of Kirk Palmer. Performances will be conducted on the alto sax, tenor sax, trumpet, trombone, piano and bass. Selections include: April in Paris; Mercy, Mercy, Mercy; Samantha; Splanky and Sir Gawain and the Green Knight.

The ECU Band and the Yamaha Corporation are hosting a jazz clinic from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. in the Kennedy Band Hall on Monday, Oct. 19.

The clinician is Paul Stephens, who formerly played lead trumpet with the Washington D.C.-based Jazz Ambassadors of the U.S. Army Band and taught jazz improv and lead trumpet at the University of North Texas.

The clinic is free and the public is invited. The clinic will benefit ECU student musicians and area high school music students.
