ADA - Dr. Doug Watson will perform as Will Rogers at East Central University’s 18th Annual Oklahoma Literary Arts Festival, scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 14, in the Hallie Brown Ford Fine Arts Center on the ECU campus.

Watson’s performance, called Conversations with Will Rogers, will take place from noon to 1 p.m. in the Ataloa Theatre as part of the Scissortail Arts Series. This portion of the festival is free and open to the public.

Conversations with Will Rogers has been praised by scholars and theatre fans alike as Watson, professor emeritus of English at Oklahoma Baptist University, brings to life the legendary Oklahoma cowboy, humorist, Vaudeville performer, social commentator and motion picture actor.

Watson has taught American Literature and western civilization at OBU for more than 25 years. Since 1991, Watson has also been involved with historical characterizations, first with the Great Plains Chautauqua and National Chautauqua Tours, and most recently with state humanities council programs from across the United States.

The Oklahoma Literary Arts Festival offers, for high school students and teachers, a series of workshops provided by members of the ECU English faculty and guests artists from 9 a.m. to 11:50 a.m. as well as the general session, Conversations with Will Rogers, from noon to 1 p.m.

Space is limited for each session so early registration for high school students and teachers is encouraged. For more information or to register, contact Charlee Lanis at 580-559-5457 or Dr. Teresa Rothrock at 580-559-5439.
