Department of Mathematics and Computer Science Annual Awards and Scholarships
The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science offers several awards and monetary scholarships each year. The applicants for these must be declared ECU Mathematics or Computer Science majors. These are as follows:
Scholarships for Mathematics Majors
THE FOLLOWING TWO RECOGNITIONS DO NOT REQUIRE AN APPLICATION PROCESS:
(a) Academic Achievement Award: The three senior Mathematics majors with the highest grade point averages are recognized with this non-cash award.
(b) E.O. Box Memorial Scholarship: The rising senior Mathematics major with the highest mathematics grade point average is recognized with this cash award. It is named in memory of E.O. Box who worked at ECU from 1953 to 1960 as an instructor of physics.

(a) James O. Danley Scholarship: One or more Mathematics majors are recognized with this cash award named in memory of James O. Danley who worked at ECU from 1956 to 1980. James O. Danley was Chair of the Mathematics Department (1966-1980) and Dean of Graduate Studies and Continuing Education (1971-1980).
(b) The Fenton Family Scholarship: Mathematics majors are recognized with this cash award named in honor of Micah Fenton who attended ECU during the summer of 2000.
(c) Kate K. Knight Scholarship: Mathematics majors are recognized with this cash award named in memory of mathematics instructor Kate K. Knight who was an ECU faculty (1909-early 1940's). The residential facility Knight Hall on ECU campus, built in 1937, bears the name of Kate K. Knight.
(d) Carmelita Paul Endowed Scholarship: Mathematics majors from the Elmore City-Pernell school district are recognized with this cash award named in honor of Carmelita Paul of Elmore City OK. Incoming freshmen receive top priority in the review process.
(e) Darrell Terrell Memorial Scholarhip: Mathematics majors are recognized with this cash award named in memory of mathematics instructor Darrell Terrell who worked at ECU from 1959 to 1983.
(f) Dennis O. and Elsie O. Williams Math Scholarship: Mathematics majors are recognized with this cash award named in honor of long-time Ada residents Dennis O. and Elsie O. Williams. Elsie O. Williams received a bachelor's degree from ECU.
(g) East Central Credit Union Applied Mathematics Scholarship: Applied Mathematics majors are recognized with this cash award offered by the ECU credit union.
(h) Higginbotham Family Scholarship: The Higginbotham Family Scholarship recognizes a declared Mathematics major who will be a junior or senior and who demonstrates the potential to earn an advanced degree in Mathematics. Dorothy Higginbotham and most of her many siblings attended ECU.
Scholarships for Computer Science Majors
(a) Pfeffer Award: A multi-year renewable scholarship provided by Mr. and Mrs. Fred Pfeffer. This is a substantial award, and there is only one recipient at any given time. Contact the Department Chair for current availability.
