The Strategic Communications concentration of Communication prepares students for careers in content creation, broadcasting/streaming, and public relations with listening and presentational skills, communications theory, and practical industry experiences.

The Data Science concentration teaches the necessary computer skills to find, process, organize and manage data in a variety of formats, as well as the mathematical skills to conduct statistical analysis, identify key insights, and the ability to communicate those results to others.

The Applied Mathematics/Pre-Actuary concentration prepares the ECU student for entry into the job market as an applied mathematician or actuarial trainee, for a career in finance, or for entry into a graduate program in applied mathematics, actuarial science, statistics, finance or quantitative management science.

The General Mathematics concentration provides preparation for the ECU student who plans to enter a graduate program in mathematics.

The Teacher Certification concentration, in conjunction with professional education courses, prepares the ECU student for teaching mathematics at the secondary level.

The Department of Music provides a general music education foundation for all ECU students, individual professional preparation for selected major fields within the department, and cultural enrichment for both the campus and community.

Prepares ECU students for careers as music teachers in schools, Kindergarten through the 12th grade.

The ECU Chorale was recently ranked in a tie for 25th place in the Mixed Chorus Division by Interkultur, the largest organizer of amateur choir contests in the world.

This degree prepares ECU students to become K-12 music educators.

Founded solidly in the tradition of liberal arts, the History and Native American Studies (NAS) programs at ECU emphasize developing the skills to think critically, analyze information, solve problems and communicate with others.

The Bachelor of Science in Physics prepares ECU students for employment in a wide range of fields, or for graduate school, in physics or related areas including engineering, medicine, mathematics and astronomy.

The BS degree option in medical physics was designed to allow the ECU student to have the courses necessary to attend any of the accredited schools.

The Bachelor of Science in Physics with a concentration in Teacher Certification at ECU provides the physics content and pedagogy through education courses for licensure and a career in secondary science education.

Political science majors at ECU are given more of an emphasis on critical thinking and written and oral communication skills.

The undergraduate program in psychology at ECU prepares its students through classwork, student professional organizations such as Psi Chi, field trips, assisting the faculty in professional endeavors such as research and application, and close relationships with the faculty to help understand and get to know, on a broad basis, the field of psychology.

The Behavioral Health Option of Psychology is designed to offer an educational experience for those interested in working in a behavioral health related field. As a discipline, it attempts to provide the initial educational background for students who are seeking to be employed in the area of mental health upon the completion of their Bachelor’s Degree.

The Social Work education program at ECU prepares competent and effective generalist social work professionals for entry into direct professional practice positions with individuals, families, groups, communities, and organizations.
