Ecology Concentration
The Ecology concentration within the Biology program provides students with a broad foundation in the biological sciences while emphasizing the study of organisms, their environments, and the interactions that shape natural systems. Coursework aligns with the Ecological Society of America’s 4DEE framework and combines classroom learning with laboratory, field, quantitative, and research experiences. Students may complete courses in Ecology, Field Methods, Wildlife Management, Herpetology, Plant Physiology, Zoology, Biostatistics, Animal Parasitology, Comparative Vertebrate Anatomy, Organic Chemistry, Human Physiology, and Undergraduate Research.
This flexible preparation allows students to develop skills in ecological investigation, data analysis, field research, scientific communication, and problem solving. Graduates of the Ecology concentration are prepared for a wide range of careers in ecological and environmental research, wildlife and natural resource management, conservation, environmental consulting, government agencies, nonprofit organizations, science communication, policy, and related fields, as well as graduate and professional study.
