Kinesiology Advanced Standing Exam (ASE)
The Department of Kinesiology at ECU offers one Advanced Standing Exam for students who already hold a current First Aid/CPR card and need to fulfill the KIN 2273: First Aid course requirement.
Course Credit: KIN 2273 – First Aid (3 credit hours)
About the Course:
Topics covered include immediate care for injuries and illness, CPR, artificial respiration,
transporting the injured, fracture immobilization, burn treatment, and mental health
considerations related to injury and stress.
Eligibility Requirements
To take the exam, students must:
- Be currently enrolled in ECU undergraduate courses
- Not have previously completed or attempted KIN 2273
- Possess a valid CPR/First Aid card from the Red Cross, American Heart
- Association, or another approved provider
- Not have taken this exam before
Important Notes
- This exam is intended for students who already possess sufficient knowledge of the course material. No study guides will be provided.
- Students will have 50 minutes to complete the exam.

How to Register
- Pick up the Advanced Standing Exam application from the Records Office (Adm. 111).
- Complete Step I with Records.
- Obtain signatures for Step II, including meeting with Dr. Prather (KIN Building, Room 111).
- Pay the exam fee ($5 per credit hour) at the Bursar’s Office (Adm. 107).
- Return to Records with your receipt to finalize paperwork and receive your Grade Report form.
