Department of English and Languages

At East Central University, the Department of English and Languages offers students a rich variety of experiences—both inside and outside the classroom. In addition to lectures and discussions, students engage in:

  • Reading, writing, and research projects

  • Field trips and teaching practicums

  • Publications internships (including the student literary magazine Originals)

  • Event collaborations with the Oklahoma Literary Arts Festival, Scissortail Creative Writing Festival, and ECU SCREENS

Language Courses

We offer courses in:

  • Spanish

  • French (basic level)

  • Russian (basic level)

All language courses include cultural studies that explore diverse worldviews and perspectives.

Study Abroad

The World Is Yours!
Students can study abroad through ECU partnerships in Ukraine, Russia, Spain, and France. Programs include travel, immersive learning, and course credit. Scholarships and financial aid may be available.
