Job Title:             Academic Coach

The Student Support Services (SSS) project’s Academic Coach (AC) will ensure qualifying and participating students will receive the services needed to gain post-secondary education access and experience post-secondary success. The AC has three primary goals, the retention, progression and graduation of participants. 
 

Duties: 

1.    Determine eligibility of participants using US Department of Education guidelines 
2.    Facilitate participants’ completing of their FAFSA and other financial aid documentation 
3.    Assist participants with class selection and enrollment 
4.    Facilitate participants receiving tutoring and study assistance 
5.    Provide encouragement to participants for their positive actions 
6.    Refer participants to campus and community resources as needed 
7.    Function as an advocate for the project and the participants 
8.    Assist the Director in preparing reports as needed 
9.    Assist the Director in preparing educational workshops for students 
10.    Perform other duties and responsibilities as outlined by the Director 

 
Other Duties Include: Identifying with and relating to low income, first generation, and students  with documented disabilities; demonstrate skills and knowledge tied to providing academic services to students pursuing post-secondary degrees; knowledge of and ability to apply student development theories and best practices for students; ability to develop, implement and evaluate new programs; exceptional verbal, written and inter-personal communication skills. 

 
Qualifications: Candidates must possess a bachelor’s degree in counseling, education or related  field. Master’s degree preferred. Classroom or Lab experience preferred. One year of experience serving disadvantaged students or previous TRIO experience is required. Sign language and Disability Services knowledge is a plus. The ability to coach SSS participants in attaining goals in  academic, career, financial aid and graduate school areas will be required. 

 
Physical Demands: Employee needs to be able to remain in a stationary position for an extended period of time. Employee will need to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, copiers and printers. The employee will spend much of their time at a computer inputting data, utilizing a keyboard and computer mouse. The employee will need to communicate with other staff, students and participants in an accurate and concise manner. Accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. 

 

Salary: $32,000
