Position Title: Business Intelligence Analyst

Position Summary:

A Business Intelligence Analyst within the Office of Institutional Research Department is crucial to fulfilling data requests and optimizing processes by designing, developing, and maintaining data dashboards. As part of this role, you will need to have technical skills in data analysis and database management, along with a thorough understanding of the needs and objectives of institutional research. The incumbent will collaborate closely with stakeholders to gather requirements, design and develop solutions, and deliver actionable insights through user-friendly dashboards and reports.

 

Key Responsibilities:

• Optimize SQL queries to ensure efficient data retrieval and processing for ad-hoc requests.

• Develop interactive dashboards, reports, and visualizations using BI tools such as Power BI platforms.

• Assist in the establishment, development, and maintenance of data warehouses to ensure that data repositories are centralized and accessible.

• Ensure data quality and consistency through data cleansing and validation techniques.

• Customize and enhance reports based on stakeholder requirements.

• Ensure compliance with all reporting requirements by assisting the Director of Institutional Research with IPEDS, HLC, RUSO, and OSRHE reports.

• Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks in data pipelines and reports.

• Provide clear, understandable communication of complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

• Document the requirements and specifications of reports to facilitate knowledge sharing and maintainability.

• Staying abreast of industry best practices and emerging trends in business intelligence and data analytics.

• Collaborate with the Director of Institutional Research on data requests and projects.

• Fulfill other duties as assigned by the Director of Institutional Research.

 

Qualifications:

• Extensive experience of writing SQL against the Colleague and other SQL databases, and of using the resulting data for reporting using Excel, Argos, and other reporting software.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills along with the ability to turn data into actionable insights.

• Knowledge of student management systems (such as Colleague or similar), database management and querying software (e.g., SQL Server), and production-level data visualization and analysis software (such as MS Power BI or similar).

• Experience with Argos or similar systems for writing reports.

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, enabling effective collaboration with cross functional teams.

 

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, statistics, etc., with a minimum of two years of experience in Visualization.

• A background in institutional research is advantageous.
