Job Overview:

The Oka Institute is seeking a motivated and dedicated individual to join our team as an Environmental Specialist. This position plays a crucial role in supporting the mission of the Oka Institute, which is to address water quality solutions through water policy, water research, land stewardship, and the promotion of sustainable communities. As an Environmental Specialist, you will be working on water quality and environmental monitoring in watersheds.

 

Responsibilities:

 

• Participate in fieldwork activities, including data collection, site assessments, and environmental monitoring.

 

• Implement science-based sampling techniques to gather accurate and reliable data for water quality assessments and research projects.

 

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to contribute to the development of water policies, research studies, and community engagement initiatives.

 

• Perform independent analysis and interpretation of data to draw meaningful conclusions and recommendations.

 

• Assist in the preparation of reports, presentations, and documents that communicate research findings and recommendations to both internal and external stakeholders.

 

• Stay updated on emerging trends, technologies, and advancements in the field of environmental sciences, watershed management, and natural resources.

 

• Perform quality control checks on collected data.

 

• Maintain sampling equipment to ensure consistency in data collection and long-term usability of equipment to the fullest extent.

 

• Input data into GIS platforms and create mapping products both digitally and print-based.

 

 

Qualifications:

 

• Associate or bachelor's degree in environmental sciences, watershed management, natural resources, agriculture, or a related field. Master's degree is a plus.

 

• Strong passion for environmental conservation and sustainable practices.

 

• Proficiency in science-based sampling techniques and data collection methods.

 

• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey complex information clearly to diverse audiences.

 

• Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

 

• Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.

 

• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

 

• Proficiency in using common software tools for data analysis, presentations, and reporting.

 

• Preferred experience or application of GIS for data collection, analysis, and display.

 

Experience:

 

Evidence of field-based work and data collection.

 

Salary Range: $55,000 – $65,000
