SUMMARY:
Maintains grounds of university property by performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Cuts/manicures lawns
• Trims and edges around walks, flower beds, and walls, etc.
• Prunes shrubs and trees to shape and improve growth or remove damaged leaves, branches, or twigs
• Rakes and bags leaves
• Inspects/treats plant life for infestations, disease, and overall health
• Cleans grounds and removes litter
• Shovels snow from walks and driveways
• Spreads salt on public passage ways to prevent ice buildup
• Plants grass, flowers, trees, and shrubs
• Waters lawn and shrubs
• Cleans out drainage ditches and culverts
• Sharpens tools such as weed cutters, edging tools, and shears
• Makes minor repairs on equipment such as lawn mower, spreader, and snow removal equipment.
• Drive University-owned vehicles, as required for performance of assigned duties.
• Assists with campus events including, but not limited to, setting up tents, chairs, tables, moving furniture, etc.
• Must have a strong work ethic and lead by example.
• Must be a professional, credible and respected representative of the institution internally and in the community
• Demonstrated willingness and ability to act ethically and socially responsible
• Can be exposed to a variety of weather conditions for periods of time.
• Ability to communicate in a courteous manner
• Performs Other work-related duties as assigned by Director of Physical Plant or designee.

QUALIFICATIONS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of knowledge, skill, and/ or ability required.
• Ability to read and understand equipment instructions, operating manuals, and repair procedures.
• Positive oral and written communication skills.
• Work from ladders, and work in confined spaces.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) or experience equivalence.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Have a valid Oklahoma state driver's license.

Assist with the continued enhancement of ECU by modeling appropriate behavior for and towards students and staff, and by displaying professional conduct at all times.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Must be able to orally communicate in fluent English, using a two-way radio system. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; and implement verbal and written instructions.
OTHER SKILLS/ABILITIES:
Good cultivation practices, recognition of disease conditions in trees, shrubs, and lawns. Some mechanical knowledge, skill in operation of tractor, mowers, hand tools.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to usefully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions and is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, extreme cold, and extreme heat. The employee frequently works in high, precarious places. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The employee must frequently lift and or move up to 50 pounds.
