Summary:
Provides bus transportation services for university employees, students, and visitors including special events and park-and-ride operations, ensuring transportation system and passenger safety, both in state and out of state. Monitors equipment and performs limited maintenance.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
• Drives a university-owned bus, providing safe and efficient transportation to the university community and its visitors.
• Performs routine vehicle inspection and maintenance including checking the oil, fuel, brakes, lights, windshield wipers, and water and tire pressures.
• Provides information and other general assistance to the university community and its visitors.
• Maintains records of work performed; makes timely reports of accidents, incidents, and unusual occurrences.
• Requires occasional evening and weekend work to support events and activities.
• Ability to travel as needed for conferences, performances, and donor meetings.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
• Records maintenance skills.
• Ability to understand and follow safety procedures.
• Perform pre-trip inspection of bus to ensure safety of passengers.
• Knowledge of basic vehicle inspection and maintenance including tire pressure, checking oil and water levels.
• Knowledge of operating an air brake bus.
• Check for fuel leaks, loose wires and hose connections, belts, oil level, coolant level, battery, transmission, engine noise, switches, horn, fans & defrosters, wipes, inside & outside mirrors, brake pedal, warning lights, service, and other maintenance.
• Obeys all federal, state, and local laws, policies, regulations, administrative codes, and transportation operation guidelines.
• Obeys all traffic laws; observes all mandatory safety regulations for buses. This includes clearing the school bus and evacuating students quickly in the event of an emergency.
• Maintains safe driver standards and applicable physical and dexterity standards.
• Ability to safely and efficiently operate a loaded passenger bus.
• Must have a strong work ethic and lead by example.
• Must be a professional, credible, and respected representative of the institution internally and in the community.
• Demonstrated willingness and ability to act ethically and socially responsible.
• Ability to communicate in a courteous manner.
• Performs other duties as assigned by Motor Pool Director or designee.

Minimum Qualifications:
• High school diploma or GED; at least 6 months of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
• Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with a high level of professionalism.
• Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
• Possession of a valid Oklahoma Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Air brake and Passenger Endorsements are requirements for this job.
• As a CDL driver, the employee will be required to comply with all provisions of DOT Regulation 49 CFR Parts 40 and 382, including random drug and alcohol testing.

The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, and climb or balance. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works in outside weather conditions and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions.
