Program Summary:
Veterans Upward Bound is a federally-funded grant program designed to provide supportive services to military service members and veterans in an effort to ensure successful entry or re-entry and completion of a post-secondary program of study (two/four-year college or vocational/technical school).
Position Summary:
The VUB Academic Counselor, a 3-year, grant-funded position, is primarily responsible for assisting VUB participants with administration and logistical support to enter or re-enter a post-secondary program of study. VUB Academic Counselors provide admission, financial literacy, and academic assistance, as well as help create individualized education plans for each veteran participant. Counselors provide follow-up services and track academic progress alongside the Department of Education to ensure a veteran’s post-secondary completion. Other duties include database management and event participation in the support area.

Positions Qualifications:
Requirements for this full-time position is a Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Counseling, Social Work, Human Resources or a closely related field. Minimum of 2 years of experience working with adults, disadvantaged individuals and/or veterans, and experience in counseling, advising, and case managing students is preferred. Computer skills, multitasking skills, good oral and written communication skills, as well as presentation skills are required. TRIO and Military experience emphasized.

Salary: $30,000 - $32,000
