Richter-Uzur Duo Concert
Ataloa Theatre
The Richter-Uzur Duo will perform a concert of music for guitar and cello on Saturday, November 15, 2014 at 7:30 pm in the Ataloa Theatre on the East Central University campus. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for students. The concert is sponsored by the Ada Arts Council and the Oklahoma Arts Council. Tickets may be purchased at Gem Jewelers, 101 W. Main St., Ada. For more information, go to http://richteruzurduo.com/ or contact Ada Arts Council President, Mark Hollingsworth at 580-559-5424.
The Richter-Uzur Duo plays a whimsical mashed-up blend of classical, world, and rock music. Viktor Uzur (cello) and Brad Richter (guitar) are each master musicians of the highest caliber with global solo careers, major international awards and intensive training from two of the world’s most lauded musical institutions (The Moscow Conservatory and The Royal College of Music respectively). While developing into classical virtuosi as students, Brad and Viktor cut their teeth in rock bands — Viktor as an electric guitarist and Brad as a guitarist and singer. They also delved into folk and world music but eventually put those interests aside as they pursued their classical concert careers. Since the RUDuo was founded in 2005, they have discovered a way to blend all of the musical styles they love and audiences have as much fun listening to the results as Brad and Viktor have playing.
The Richter-Uzur Duo has played hundreds of concerts in North America, South America, Europe and Asia and has a rapidly widening circle of communities around the globe that invite them back again and again. In the U.S. the RUDuo is perhaps best known through its regular appearances on NPR’s Performance Today — North America’s most listened to classical music program - as well as frequent national and international broadcasts on the Armed Forces Radio Network and programs such as PBS’s WoodSongs and NPR’s Classical Guitar Alive, which named their debut CD ‘Best New Release’ in 2010.
Viktor Uzur and Brad Richter are outspoken advocates for the arts and arts education, Brad as the Executive Director of Lead Guitar, a not-for-profit that establishes guitar programs in public schools nation-wide and Viktor as professor at Weber State University and director of the Bonneville Chamber Music Festival. Whenever possible the Duo includes school or community outreach events with their performances.

Jason Scott Proctor, 35, a Tahlequah high school math teacher, has been named the 2015 Oklahoma Teacher of the Year. State Superintendent of Public Instruction Janet Barresi made the announcement today during a ceremony at the Oklahoma State Fair.
”Congratulations to Mr. Proctor. I can tell he knows how to truly connect with his students. I know he will provide keen insights with his fellow Oklahoma educators over the next year,” Superintendent Barresi said.
“Mr. Proctor was chosen from a group of 12 inspiring, talented and motivated teachers from every corner of our state. Choosing a single person for this title is something I could never do, but I’m thankful to the judges who did. All of our finalists are the best of the best, and I look forward to seeing their great successes.”
Proctor teaches Geometry, Algebra II, Pre-Calculus and Advanced Placement Calculus at Tahlequah High School in Tahlequah Public Schools. He also coaches track at the school.
He is a National Board Certified Teacher, holding his current position for eight years and teaching for a total of 12 years. He attended Ferris State University in Michigan for his bachelor’s degree in Chemistry Education. He also earned a master’s degree in “Art of Teaching” from Marygrove College, also in Michigan.
In a portfolio he submitted to be considered for the state title, Proctor wrote about the importance of building honest relationships with students.
“Years ago I learned that the results I witnessed from students directly correlated to the relationships I built with those students,” he said. “Developing a foundation of trust and genuine concern has been my goal with any and all students who are open.”
Proctor is Oklahoma’s 60th Teacher of the Year and the first from Tahlequah. He will represent Oklahoma in the National Teacher of the Year competition next spring.
