Master of Education (MEd)

The Master of Education degree at East Central University offers educators and other professionals, in-depth study in several specialization areas. Candidates can choose a program option that prepares them for a job in an education-related field.  The program options include: Educational Leadership, Library Media, School Counseling, School Psychometry, Special Education, Sports Administration.   Such selection shall be made at the time of admission to the graduate program since a change of option may result in the students having completed inapplicable work. Each program offers courses based on best practices in the field. Each program is designed to provide a research foundation from which candidates make informed decisions.


Educational Leadership Program Option (0980) [Online Program]

The Master of Education: Education Leadership Program Option is a 32-hour program, delivered in a fully online format.  For tuition and fee information, please visit the Office of the Bursar.  

This program option is designed for working teachers who want to enter into higher-level administrative roles, the program emphasizes a combination of leadership theory and hands-on training that prepares you to become an effective decision-maker in education.  Special attention is given to the knowledge, skills, and dispositions necessary to become an effective school principal.

The graduate program option for Educational Leadership is designed for the graduate student specializing in administration for grades K-12. Special attention is given to the knowledge, skills, and dispositions necessary to become an effective school principal. In order to complete this option, a student must hold and maintain a valid teaching certificate and must have completed two (2) years of successful public-school teaching.

Cumulative GPA: 2.5

Thesis

Educational Leadership does not require a thesis.

Practicum/Internship

Educational Leadership requires one (1) practicum course.

Library Media Program Option (0900) [Online Program]

The Master of Education: Library Media Program Option is a 32-hour program, delivered in a fully online format.  For tuition and fee information, please visit the Office of the Bursar.  

The program option is designed for graduate students planning to become a School Library Media Specialist in grades PreK-12th in public or private educational settings. The intent of the program is to prepare competent, certified School Library Media Specialists in accordance with state and national professional standards and guidelines. All areas of school librarianship, including technology, are emphasized. Special attention is given to the development of the student as a consumer of research along with a major emphasis on the knowledge, skills and attitudes that are necessary to become a School Library Media Specialist.

The Masters of Library Media is designed for graduate students planning to become a School Library Media Specialist in grades PK-12 in public or private educational settings. The ECU Library Media program is fully-online and accredited by NCATE.  Program completers must hold a valid standard Oklahoma teaching certificate in an approved area and pass the Oklahoma Subject Area Test (OSAT) for School Library Media Specialists to become a certified Library Media Specialist in the state of Oklahoma.

School Counseling Program Option (0843)

The Master of Education: School Counseling Program Option is a 33-hour program, delivered in a mixed format.  For tuition and fee information, please visit the Office of the Bursar.  

This program option is designed for the school counselor is designed for the graduate student specializing in counseling at the elementary or secondary level and leads to the Master of Education Degree. Special attention is given to the development of the student as a consumer of research along with a major emphasis on the knowledge, skills, and attitudes that are necessary to become a school counselor.

School Psychometry Program Option (1060)

The Master of Education: School Psychometry Program Option is a 33-hour program, delivered in a mixed format.  For tuition and fee information, please visit the Office of the Bursar.  

This program option focuses on the applied knowledge needed in the development and use of educational and testing skills for student assessment. The curriculum is designed to address the educational and psychological concerns associated with educational assessment of students with routine and special needs in the classroom.

Special Education Program Option (0850) [Online Program]

The Master of Education: Special Education Program Option is a 32-hour program, delivered in a fully online format.  For tuition and fee information, please visit the Office of the Bursar.  

This program option is designed for the special education teacher is designed for the graduate student specializing in teaching students with mild/moderate disabilities in PreK-12th grade. Special attention is given to the development, learning assessment, and collaboration in working with students with mild/moderated disabilities.

Sports Administration Program Option (1050) [Online Program]

The Master of Education: Sports Administration Program Option is a 30-hour program, delivered in a fully online format.  For tuition and fee information, please visit the Office of the Bursar.

This program option is designed to prepare the professional educator for positions as Head Coach, Athletic Director, or other administrative positions responsible for directing athletic programs. The program is based on specialized courses in sports administration.
