The ECU MLK Project 2014 Unveiling event will be 11:00 a.m., Friday May 2, 2014. It will be located on the Green between the Administration and Horace Mann Buildings.

Additional Information:

During the last three months, students in Dr. Christine Pappas’ Mass Media and US Politics have been teaching 5th Grade students from Latta, Willard, Homer, and Allen about Martin Luther King, Jr. ECU students prepared a presentation and guided the children in an art contest. Twenty-eight drawings were selected and have been etched on black granite tile. The tiles will create a memorial to Martin Luther King, Jr. Please join us for the unveiling of the tiles. All of the artwork is centered around the quote, “Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.” The ways the children interpreted the quote are really quite amazing. Below is one example from Latta.

This project was funded in part from a grant from Montana Campus Compact and by ENACTUS, sponsored by Dr. Pat Fountain.
