The 67th Student Art Show is underway at East Central University. Works from ECU art students are on display at the Pogue Art Gallery inside the Hallie Brown Ford Fine Arts Center through Friday, April 15.
The exhibition is a juried show of the best student work produced throughout the year at ECU. The display includes painting, sculpture, printmaking, ceramics, drawing, digital images and graphic designs.
“Traditionally, student exhibitions of this type have functioned as a way for Art Departments and Schools to assess themselves,” School of Fine Arts Director Brad Jessop said. “Think of taking your pulse.”
He said faculty display their work in the fall and students respond with their own work in the spring, a tradition that goes back to the old art academies.
But the students aren’t finished yet. As a capstone to finish the year, the Senior Exhibit begins on April 19. Works of art by senior art students will be on display at the Pogue Art Gallery through May 14.
