ADA, Okla. – Applications are being accepted into the President’s Leadership Class (PLC) at East Central University for the 2024-25 academic year.

PLC is one of the premier freshmen scholarship programs made up of high potential students who demonstrate leadership skills in high school. Each year 20-25 students are selected for the program. Members of PLC have opportunities to interact with leaders on campus, within the community and at the state-level, volunteering at local schools and other events and traveling to major U.S. cities to expand their knowledge on history and culture.

This past semester, President Wendell Godwin took members of the PLC to New York City over fall break.

“We are blessed to have excellent donor support that makes this program possible.  Many of our students have not had the opportunity to travel outside the region,” said Godwin. “This year six of our students had not traveled by airplane and four had not seen the ocean.  The travel experiences are great for the students and it helps the class bond as they navigate their freshmen year of college. I also enjoy teaching the PLC leadership class during the Fall semester.”

During the trip, students visited several NYC landmarks including the Statue of Liberty, 9/11 Memorial, Empire State Building and Ellis Island. The group attended the Broadway Play, Lion King and lodged at the historic Marriott Marquis Hotel in Times Square.

“This once-in-a-lifetime trip has allowed me to consider how grateful I am for the opportunity to be part of such an exceptional group,” wrote McKenna Jones, a freshman at ECU and member of PLC. “Even though this trip was only four days, I made so many new memories and got to grow closer with my group and I will cherish this trip for the rest of my life.”

To qualify for PLC, students must be first-time, full-time freshmen for the Fall 2024 semester. Incoming freshmen must have an ACT score of 20 or higher or a minimum 3.5 GPA to be an automatic qualifier for consideration.

Students selected into PLC will receive a scholarship of $1,500 per semester including a $750 Tuition Waiver and $750 Housing Waiver each semester. The scholarship will continue up to two full semesters with an option to be selected for two more semesters.

The deadline to apply is March 1, 2024 to guarantee full consideration. Once the spots are filled, the program is closed for the academic year. For more information and to apply, visit ecok.edu/ecuplc.
