A "sneak peek" opening will be held for Dallas artist Ron Clark's current series, Impending Presence, from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday [MEMORIAL DAY] in the Pogue Art Gallery in East Central University's Hallie Brown Ford Fine Arts Center.
Clark, a native of Idabel, will be at the gallery. The formal opening reception for the artist will be from 6 to 8 p.m. June 4 [FRIDAY]. The exhibit runs from Tuesday [JUNE 1] through July 28. Gallery hours are from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays.
Ron Clark's "Seduction" is one of the paintings in his Impending Presence series that will be on exhibit in the Pogue Gallery in East Central University's Hallie Brown Ford Fine Arts Center.
The Impending Presence series currently is being exhibited throughout the United States at metropolitan museums and universities as well as retail galleries. Clark has exhibited widely and recently in Atlanta, Palm Beach, Los Angeles and New York.
The New York Times has described his work as "incredibly rich and moody paintings of remarkable texture and luminosity." Art in America said, "Yet the tactile flair and sumptuous surfaces are only part of the reason one takes notice of such works."
Clark was befriended another Idabel native, the artist Harold Stevenson who is well known for his surrealist images.
Clark studied architecture, journalism and graphic design at the University of Oklahoma and worked as a musician, architectural illustrator and graphic designer in Texas. He moved to New York in 1987 to enter the Parsons School of Design.
He returned to Dallas and worked several years in advertising agencies and design studios as a graphic designer and art director, then as creative director and copywriter for a small marketing firm where he designed magazine ads, wrote ad copy and designed international trade show exhibition booths and graphics.
In 1995, Clark entered the next phase of his career when he began creating a series of large oil paintings that combined minimalist imagery with themes based in spirituality and Eastern philosophy. The series began exhibiting in 1997 with a one-man show and was immediately successful.
The exhibit is organized and promoted by Katherine T. Carter and Associates of New York.
