Classically trained guitarist Brad Richter is set to open the fine arts season at East Central University’s Hallie Brown Ford Fine Arts Center on Sept. 6 [Thursday], at 7:30 p.m. in the Ataloa Theatre. Richter’s performance is being hosted in conjunction with the Ada Arts Council. Tickets are $10 and may be purchased online at tickets.ecok.edu; by calling 580-559-5751; at Gem Jewelers, located at 101 W. Main; or at the box office the night of the show.

As an adolescent, Richter began teaching himself to play guitar and compose at age 12. At 19, having had no formal musical training, he was awarded the Presidential Scholarship to the American Conservatory of Music in Chicago where he studied with guitarist Paul Henry and began performing, composing, and eventually teaching professionally.

Richter has performed around the globe as a soloist, with renowned chamber ensembles, and in duos with artists such as David Finckel, cellist of the Grammy-winning Emerson String Quartet and director of chamber music at Lincoln Center. Brad’s concerts and those of The Richter Uzur Duo (with cellist Viktor Uzur) are featured frequently on national NPR and PBS broadcasts including regular appearances on NPR’s “Performance Today” and an appearance on PBS’s “WoodSongs.”

This event is sponsored in part by the ECU Foundation, Inc., the Oklahoma Arts Council, the East Central Credit Union, Citizens Bank, Blue Moon Café, Bob BBQ, Valley View Regional Hospital, the ECU Bookstore and the Pepsi Cola Company.
