ADA, Okla. – East Central University’s Linscheid Library is set to host an upcoming Book Talk featuring ECU professor and author, Dr. Mark Walling, Feb. 12 at 3 p.m. inside the Linscheid Library.

Walling will be discussing his first published book, “I Can Hear Everything From Here” released in Dec. of 2023 by Turning Plow Press.

"In the Choctaw language, Oklahoma means 'courageous nation' or 'brave people, ' and in these Oklahoma stories by Mark Walling, readers encounter different varieties of courage from characters who feel grounded in this region-and rooted to it.” states Aaron Gwyn, author of All God’s Children and Wynne’s War. “I Can Hear Everything From Here" is an important collection from a writer who burns with hopefulness and heart."

A writer throughout his career, Walling has published scripts, poetry, critical essays, short stories and other forms of media. He has been featured in literary magazines such as The Sewanee Review, Weber Studies, South Dakota Review and The Chariton Review. However, “I Can Hear Everything From Here,” a collection of several short-stories based in the state of Oklahoma, marks his first full-length publication.

Walling is currently in his 38th year as an English and Literature professor at ECU where he specializes in teaching creative writing. He also currently serves as the interim-Dean for the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences.
