ADA, Okla. – Dr. Robert Bailey will deliver East Central University’s annual Lockmiller Art History Lecture on Wednesday, March 5 at 3 p.m. in Room 158 of the Hallie Brown Ford Fine Arts Center.

This year’s lecture will be over Bailey’s upcoming book titled, “Conceptual Art after Modernism: Reconceiving Art and Art History.” The event is free and open to the public.

Bailey will examine the role that conceptual thinking played for artists and art historians engaged in intellectual dialogues about their practices from 1950 to the present. His study is interested in how talking across the divide between their practices enabled artists and art historians to learn from one another and introduce more scholarly rigor or creative activity into their work.

Bailey is Associate Professor of Art History and Acting Associate Director of the School of Visual Arts at the University of Oklahoma. He received his Ph.D. in the History of Art and Architecture from the University of Pittsburgh.

This lecture was established, through an endowment, in honor of David Lockmiller and his interest in art history. Lockmiller is the father of former ECU professor Dr. Carlotta Lockmiller.
