ADA, Okla. – East Central University proudly welcomes students to the 2024-25 academic school year, and with these students come new records and exciting news for ECU.

Along with all the familiar faces returning this fall, ECU had the distinct pleasure of welcoming the largest incoming freshmen class since 2016, with 545 students.

“It’s exciting to see our team’s hard work across campus turn into results,” said ECU President Wendell Godwin. “In addition to the large freshmen class, we also welcomed over 1,100 new students to campus this fall. The campus is crawling with activity right now. Sporting events, 40+ student organizations, and our performing arts activities all allow students to be highly engaged.”     

This fall also boasts a number of advances for individual departments across campus.

ECU’s online programs have seen a significant increase this year, with the total of online students rising 17% and the total of new online students rising by 30%.

The College of Education and Psychology reports that undergraduate enrollment for many of their degrees have seen an incline including Kinesiology with a 14.9% increase, Teacher Certification with a 21.8% increase, Education with a 35.1% increase and a 40.5% increase for Psychology. Psychology seeing a significant boost in both online and in-person enrollment.

The College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences have also seen improvements across the board with Social Work enrollments rising by 35%, Performing Arts reaching a 44% increase and Criminal Justice seeing a significant 48% boost, with other departments across campus also seeing noticeable upward trends as well.

“We have outstanding faculty and staff, and amazing students here that make ECU such a wonderful place,” said Vice President of Enrollment Management, Denver Stickrod. “We’ll look to leverage these key populations in order to position the University for continued growth over the next several years. It’s a good day to be a Tiger!”
