Demonstrations of the art of belly dancing, benefits of self-hypnotism and the grace of yoga on Wednesday [SEPT. 5], along with a free lunch and live radio broadcast, will highlight the classes and services offered this fall by East Central University's Center of Continuing Education and Community Services.

Lifelong Learning Day will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. outside Fentem Hall on the north side of the campus, just west of Science Hall and the Physical and Environmental Sciences Center.

Information about all the programs offered by the Center of Continuing Education and Community Services (CCECS) will be available in tents on the circle between the buildings. The CCECS helps individuals, businesses and students by providing lifelong learning opportunities for the ECU campus, surrounding communities and, in some cases, statewide.

Drawings for prizes will include an MP3 player, memberships in the Tommy Hewett M.D. Wellness Center and gift certificates for continuing education and continuing professional education classes.

Citizens Bank will provide the free lunch and KYKC will broadcast live from the event.

Three instructors in the Community Education Program will give previews of some of this fall's classes: The Art of Belly Dancing from 10:30 to 11 a.m., presented by Angie Brunk; The Art of Self-Hypnosis, from 12:30 to 1 p.m. by Johnie Fredman; and The Art of Yoga from 1:30 to 2 p.m. by Rebecca Gatz.

"The continuing education program extends the university's resources to all members of the community and acts as a bridge between scholar and citizen," said Dr. Rick Wetherill, CCECS director. "We work with other academic departments, state agencies and specific professional groups to offer non-credit classes through a variety of programs which are direct or immediate responses to the needs of the public."

The CCECS also delivers select credit classes through graduate workshops and seminars and provides a variety of service-oriented programs designed to meet community needs.

In addition to the Community Education Program, the CCECS oversees the Child Care Resource and Referral Agency, ECU Child Development Center, Continuing Professional Education, Developmental Disabilities Program, Early Settlement Mediation, Literacy First Program, Oklahoma Energy Resource Board Workshops, Online Certification Training and the Tommy Hewett M.D. Wellness Center.
