East Central University President Patricia G. Pierson proclaimed March as “Social Work Month” on campus during a recent ceremony in Danley Hall.

The theme was entitled “Social Workers: Leaders, Advocates, Champions,” as the ECU social work program hosted a self-care training that same day to honor those hard-working social workers in the community by teaching them how to better take care of themselves.

ECU social students were also in attendance to network and meet social workers in the field. The students also sent out thank you notes to approximately 50 community social workers for their efforts.

“Our program is a premier program offering social work students the opportunity to engage in hands-on learning through simulation labs and community service events,” said Amy Ward, director of ECU’s Social Work Program. “We offer courses in child welfare, Indian child welfare, mental health, crisis intervention and many other specialized areas.”
