ECU SCREENS presents “Anna Karenina” on Tuesday, March 23, at 7 p.m. in East Central University's Raymond J. Estep Multimedia Center of the Bill S. Cole University Center. This event is free and open to the public.

Overwhelmingly considered one of Leo Tolstoy’s masterpieces, “Anna Karenina” explores issues of religion, family, society, and morality in 19th century Russian society, using the story of the aristocratic Anna’s tragic affair with the rich Count Vronksy. The Vakhtangov Theatre production is a “movement-based performance” with no spoken dialogue. Director Anželika Cholina believes “every gesture holds as much meaning as a word.” Cholina’s choreography works with Alfred Schnittke’s music to unveil the personalities and depths of the characters.

“Anna Karenina” is two hours long with a 15-minute intermission. During the intermission, ECU SCREENS will hold a drawing for gourmet Russian chocolates.

Next, ECU Screens brings the NT Live production of “Amadeus” on Thursday, April 13 at 7:30 p.m. This event will be preceded from 4-6 p.m. by “Operation Mozart,” an afternoon of performances of Mozart’s music by ECU faculty and students, including the University Chorale. “Operation Mozart” will also include a lecture by ECU’s Dr. Joshua Grasso, titled “Amadeus: The Lines vs. The Letters.” Operation Mozart will be free and open to the public. General admission tickets to “Amadeus” are $10.
