ECU Showtime is bringing the musical ‘Godspell’ to stage at East Central University’s Ataloa Theatre Saturday, Oct. 22, at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 23, with a 2:30 p.m. matinee.

Playwright John-Michael Tebelak partnered with musical genius Stephen Schwartz to create a modern version of Christ teaching his followers lessons and parables from the Bible, in no particular order.

The story takes place in a city junkyard, where the cast members use the trash as props to act out the stories and teachings that build up to the Passion Story where Jesus Christ, played by Markus McClellan, announces, “This is the beginning.”

Soon, Christ is betrayed by Judas, played by Scout James from Fruita, Colorado.  During the Last Supper, Christ reassures his remaining disciples (portrayed by Madyson Bonner, Gabrielle Carlson, Brianna-Jo Davis, Kaylee Hacker, Morgan Phillippe and Glennon Selke) that they are ready to carry out the lessons they have learned.

Tickets will be available for purchase at the door for general admission, cash only.  The prices are $10 for adults, $5 for seniors and students 12 and under, and free for ECU students and employees.
