Homecoming activities are planned for East Central University students Monday through Friday [OCT. 10-14] before the traditional events on Saturday. The Campus Life and Leadership Office has changed some student events and added several new ones, including a Homecoming concert at 9:30 p.m. Thursday with Texas singer/rapper Chalie Boy.

The concert will be in Kerr Activities Center. Chalie Boy has been described as having a big voice, a quick wit, a way with words and the ability to sing and rap. His unique style fuses his singing with rapping.

In 2000 he made his rap debut on local hip-hop group The Freestyle Kingz’ mixtape with Dirty 3rd Records’ DJ Bull. He broke into the mainstream in 2009 with “I Look Good.” The feel-good record, and its remix featuring Slim Thug, Juvenile and Bun B, was such a huge success – cracking the top 50 on the Billboard Hip Hop/R&B chart – that he and Dirty 3rd Records signed with Battery/Jive Records in September 2009.

He has opened for such artists as Young Jeezy, T.I., Slim Thug, Gorilla Zoe and The-Dream and been featured on more than 200 mixtapes, including 12 solo and 10 group tapes. In 2009, he collaborated with Grammy Award-winning rapper Chamillionaire on “Call Me,” off Chalie’s “I’m Here” mixtape.

The concert also will feature soundman Music Man on the 1s & 2s of Oklahoma City and student groups S.N.A.C.K.S. aka Swag Kingpin and Double. Tickets are $5 for ECU students and $10 for all others. They can be purchased in advance at the Campus Life and Leadership Office in the Bill Cole University Center and at the door.

Homecoming week will begin with a free comedy show starring Lav Luv of BET’s ComicView at 9 p.m. Monday in the Ataloa Theatre in the Hallie Brown Ford Fine Arts Center.

Homecoming royalty will be selected in a new Homecoming King and Queen Pageant beginning at 8 p.m. Tuesday in the Ataloa Theatre. Student organizations previously nominated candidates who were interviewed before the finalists were announced then voted on by all students.

This year, students could apply on their own or under the sponsorship of an organization. They will be judged during the pageant, based on talent, evening and casual wear competitions, grade point average and campus involvement. The top three king and queen candidates will be announced at the pageant. Finalists will campaign and students will vote on Wednesday and Thursday.

The 2011 Homecoming King and Queen will be announced at half-time of the football game which begins at 4 p.m. at Norris Field.

On Wednesday, the theme is “Fresh Meat vs. Old Meat” as Greeks, members of social fraternities and sororities, compete with non-Greeks on Centennial Plaza in front of the Hallie Brown Ford Fine Arts Center.  A scavenger hunt will be conducted from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and games are scheduled from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., followed by games in McBride Gym from 8:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. There is no charge to participate.

Thursday’s events include the Homecoming pep rally from noon to 2 p.m. on the mall by the Bill Cole University Center and the Chalie Boy Homecoming concert in Kerr Activities Center.

A formal Homecoming dance will begin at 10 p.m. Friday at the Pontotoc County Agriplex and Convention Center. The cost is $3.
