A Recycled Fashion Show has been added to the activities at the Oklahoma Green Expo Saturday [APRIL 20-21] at the Agriplex.
Fourteen East Central University students in an intermediate construction techniques class will model recycled fashions at 1 p.m. on the stage at the Agriplex.
Jan Long, ECU instructor of family & consumer sciences, said students were assigned to take some type of clothing and recycle it into something they would wear themselves. An ECU tee shirt became a string tank top and jeans were transformed into a strapless heart-shaped top. Another student made a circular skirt from a full-size floral sheet.
Student Sydney Manning also is helping with the models’ makeup, a project for her portfolio. Hair Mojo Salon will provide hair styles for the models.
In addition, students in Dr. Diana Watson-Maile’s Home Management Class will display recycled home products they have made, such as a clock made from teacups and wood, scrubbies made from mesh vegetable sacks and a spice jar set made from baby food jars.
The expo will offer workshops and vendor exhibits of green products and services Friday and Saturday, with keynote addresses Friday night by NASCAR/Indy Car driver and environmental activist Leilani Munter and Vonda Lockwood, senior director of store operations, sustainability & compliance, for Wal-Mart Corporation.
