The Pogue Gallery at East Central University will feature "Another World seemed Possible," an exhibit of work by Frank Wick, through Feb. 6.
The artist's work tends to be a mixture of fatalism and general frustration with life and living, said Dr. Brad Jessop, chair of ECU's Art Department. Inspired by objects and ideas garnered from bars and nightclubs, the work reflects a timelessness reserved for teenaged angst and the embittered ramblings of a drunk dock worker.
Wick was born into trailer park culture in the early 1970s. After living in Australia and California, he decided to go to college. He received a master's degree in design from the University of Iowa in 1996 and a master of fine arts degree in sculpture at the University of Miami in 2000.
His work has been shown internationally in galleries and museums, including the Museum of Contemporary Art (Miami), M54 Projekt Space in Basel, Switzerland, and the Hollywood Art and Culture Center. Most recently he received one of the Oklahoma Visual Art Coalition's 365 honoraria to produce work for the 2011 show in Oklahoma City. He and ECU's Kate Rivers were recipients of the 2009 Visual Arts Fellowship.
The Pogue Gallery is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Admission is free.
