Military service has a long-standing tradition at ECU, beginning with the establishment of a Student Army Training Corps (SATC) during WWI.
WWII brought a training unit for the Army Air Corps to East Central, which kept the school from closing its doors due to a lack of students during wartime.
In 1971, a Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC) was placed on campus and remained a tradition at ECU through the 1990s.
The Oklahoma Army National Guard established its first-ever GOLD program at ECU in 2006. Through the GOLD program, students can minor in military science and earn 10 hours of college credit and earn commissions as officers in the OANG.
