Dr. Allen Correll, band director at East Central University, is organizing and conducting a community band at ECU this summer that will have its first meeting Monday night [MAY 17].
The group hopes to attract adults who are former band members and current high school or college band students.
Rehearsals will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Monday nights through June 21, except for Memorial Day on May 31, in the Kennedy Band Hall in the Hallie Brown Ford Fine Arts Center.
"There are many former wind and percussion students in the Ada area who have expressed an interest in a community band," Correll said, "so now, here's your chance to blow out the cobwebs in that old horn in the attic and relive those fun-filled days of school band rehearsal."
The band will play a concert of light classic and popular music at 3 p.m. June 27 [SUNDAY] in the Ataloa Theater. A watermelon feast will follow the concert at the gazebo just east of the fine arts center.
