ADA – Get ready to enjoy an evening of off-the-cuff comedy using the language and themes of William Shakespeare when The Improvised Shakespeare Company takes the Ataloa stage in the Hallie Brown Ford Fine Arts Center at East Central University.

The show, which officially begins the 2013-2014 fine arts season at ECU, is set for Thursday, Sept. 26 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $18 and may be purchased online at tickets.ecok.edu or at the box office the night of the show.

In addition, season tickets may be purchased the night of the show. A season pass can be purchased for all nine special performances and more for $100. For $65, a patron can purchase a ticket for all ECU productions plus two of the other special events, excluding the Brad Richter and Viktor Uzu Duo. The Brad Richter and Viktor Uzu Duo in concert with the Oklahoma City Community Orchestra is presented in conjunction with the Ada Arts Council.

Based on one audience suggestion, The Improvised Shakespeare Co. creates a fully improvised play in Elizabethan style. Each of the players has brushed up on his “thees” and “thous” to bring you an evening of hilarity in the Shakespearean style.

Any hour could be filled with power struggles, star-crossed lovers, sprites, kings, queens, princesses, sword-play, rhyming couplets, asides, insults, persons in disguise and all that we’ve come to expect from the pen of the Great Bard. The night could reveal a tragedy, comedy, or history. Nothing is planned out, rehearsed, or written. Each play is completely improvised, so each play is entirely new.

Founded in 2005 by Blaine Swen, The Improvised Shakespeare Co. has played to sold out houses in Chicago and has currently found itself on the road, including a trip to the Piccolo Spoleto Fringe Festival in Charleston, S.C., where The ISC was reviewed as one of the top shows in the festival. The group also frequents New York City performing limited engagements Off-Broadway where stars from SNL, Mad TV and The Office have been seen watching the show in amazement.

Those who want to make it a dinner-and-show night can present their season ticket patron card and receive a 10 percent discount at Blue Moon Café, Chili’s Bar and Grill, Rib Crib, Santa Fe Cattle Co., and Vintage 22 on the night of the performance.

The 2013-14 fine arts season is sponsored by the ECU Foundation, Inc., Oklahoma Arts Council, Communication Federal Credit Union, Vision Bank, Citizen’s Bank, Blue Moon Café, Santa Fe Cattle Co., ECU Bookstore, San Remo’s Pizzaria and Magic T’s.
