ADA, Okla. – The Oka' Institute at East Central University is proud to announce that Joseph Harris, Community Coordinator, has been awarded the prestigious Fire and Light Award by the Chickasaw Nation. This distinguished honor recognizes individuals who exhibit exceptional leadership and dedication to fostering community sustainability and addressing critical infrastructure challenges.

Through his work at the Oka' Institute, Harris has been a driving force in helping communities secure funding for essential infrastructure improvements, particularly in water and wastewater systems. He assists communities in identifying key challenges, creating actionable solutions, and building partnerships that lead to transformative outcomes. Harris’s work focuses on addressing the pressing need for sustainable infrastructure in rural and underserved areas, ensuring communities have access to clean water, improved wastewater systems, and resources for long-term growth.
