East Central University student Gabriela King takes advantage of an opportunity to study abroad in Wales as she was named a Brad Henry Scholarship recipient.
The scholarship provides Oklahoma Regional University students a chance to study abroad at Swansea University in Wales, United Kingdom.
“Swansea is a really cool town on the beach,” King said, as she is looking forward to exploring other places near the university. “It’s relatively low cost to travel to various areas.”
King is a sophomore from Ada, studying biology with a minor in Spanish at ECU.
She will also receive academic credit for her semester studying abroad. King said part of her studies will include visiting various museums and historical sites and reporting back to Dr. Houston Mount at ECU. Paris, France, and Stonehenge were among the stops on her itinerary.
King initially traveled to London for a few days before ultimately traveling 200 miles west to Swansea. Classes begin Jan. 30, and conclude June 9.
The students selected for the Brad Henry Scholarship – valued at approximately $12,000 – must have completed at least 30 credit hours and have excellent academic qualifications, outstanding writing and communication skills, exemplary character, and have demonstrated leadership qualities, maturity and judgment.
