ADA, Okla. – The East Central University Linscheid Library is hosting an Author Talk with several notable, published authors from across the university’s campus on Feb. 3 at 3:30 p.m. on the second floor of the Linscheid Library.
The event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be provided.
Seven faculty members, each of them published writers and authors, will be discussing their writing styles, perspectives, viewpoints and collaborative writing process.
Dr. Elisabeth Davis
Davis joined the ECU History faculty in the Fall of 2024. She has published over 12 academic articles on the history of Catholicism, Native American Boarding Schools and Library Science. Her first book, Catholic Sisters, Narratives of Authority, and the Native American Boarding Schools, 1847-1918, was published in November 2024.
Dr. Ken Hada
Hada is the author of twelve collections of poetry, including his latest: Visions for the Night and Come Before Winter, from Turning Plow Press. His previous collection, Contour Feathers (Turning Plow Press, 2021) received the Oklahoma Book Award. Other works of his have been awarded by The Western Writers of America, The National Western Heritage Museum, South Central Modern Language Association and The Oklahoma Center for the Book. Dr. Randall Maples
Maples is an Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Physical Sciences at ECU. He graduated from Oklahoma State University in 2012 with a PhD in Analytical Chemistry and has taught a variety of courses in Chemistry since 2013. Maples has 22 publications that include scientific journal articles, abstracts and book chapters on topics that comprise medicinal compounds and health, environmental contaminants and supercomputer modeling in biological systems.
Jose Montalva
Montalva joined the Department of Biological and Environmental Sciences at ECU in 2018. His research focuses on invasion biology, bee biogeography, citizen science and ethnoecology. He is the principal investigator of the “Save Our Bumblebee” project- contributing to native bee surveys at many notable locations, including the Oklahoma City Zoo and Botanical Garden. Montalva has made significant contributions to his field with over 30 peer-reviewed publications, scientific reports and book chapters, and he has served as a reviewer for prestigious scientific journals such as PLOS ONE, Biological Invasions and the Journal of Biogeography, among others.
Dr. Steven Pedersen
Pedersen joined ECU in 2009. He is the Chair, Assistant Professor and Assistant Dean for the Department of English & Languages. Pedersen has an MA in English and PhD in composition, rhetoric and technical writing. His work can be found in Rhetoric Review, The Kenneth Burke Journal, the Journal of the American Studies Association of Texas and The Oklahoman. He teaches writing at ECU and has recently published his first book of poetry, Dog Days, with Fine Dog Press.
Kerry Rhone
Rhone began her educational journey in California, where she earned a post-baccalaureate degree in Elementary Education. Six years later, she deepened her professional expertise by obtaining a Master of Science in Teaching and Curriculum. During this period, she served as Title I Coordinator, District Mentor in English Language Arts and a teacher for the State of California. Fifteen years after first stepping into the classroom, Rhone transitioned to the University of Montevallo in Alabama, where she developed a middle school program, taught literacy and pursued a degree in Instructional Leadership with an emphasis in literacy at the University of Alabama. Three years later she joined ECU as a full-time adjunct and now serves as the Director of Elementary Education.
Dr. Mark Walling
Walling is a Professor in the Department of English and Languages and is currently serving as the Interim Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences. He has published numerous stories and poems in literary magazines such as The Sewanee Review, Weber Studies, South Dakota Review, and The Chariton Review. I Can Hear Everything from Here is his first book.
