ECU SCREENS will present the “original, engaging, and unexpectedly funny” (Daily Telegraph) recorded live production of “Jane Eyre” on Saturday, March 26 at 2 p.m. in the Raymond J. Estep Multimedia Center of the Bill S. Cole University Center.

Almost 170 years on, Charlotte Brontë’s story of the trailblazing Jane is as inspiring as ever. This bold and dynamic production uncovers one woman’s fight for freedom and fulfilment on her own terms.

ECU SCREENS is collaborating with Sigma Tau Delta and The Honors Student Association to show this “fresh, exciting, and endlessly inventive production” (Evening Standard). “Jane Eyre” is $5 for students and $10 for general admission.

From her beginnings as a destitute orphan, Jane Eyre’s spirited heroine faces life’s obstacles head-on, surviving poverty, injustice and the discovery of bitter betrayal before taking the ultimate decision to follow her heart.

This acclaimed re-imagining of Brontë's masterpiece was first staged by Bristol Old Vic last year, when the story was performed over two evenings. Director Sally Cookson now brings her celebrated production to the National Theatre, presented as a single, exhilarating performance. This enduring coming-of-age tale is “aflame with passion” (Observer) and “theatre at its most imaginative” (Daily Mail).

“Jane Eyre” is the sixth in a series of NT Live productions and foreign films being presented by ECU SCREENS this spring. NT Live is the National Theatre's groundbreaking project to broadcast the best of British theatre to cinemas around the world.

ECU SCREENS will present four different Royal National Theater recorded-live stage performances throughout the spring semester. The screenings, which range from classic literary masterpieces to popular contemporary works, are all open to the public. The next ECU SCREENS event will be the NT Live production of Shakespeare’s “As You Like It” on Saturday, April 23 at 2 p.m.
