A new choral work by Ada composers Victoria Davison and Rudy Lupinski and a nearly 300-year-old mass by Franz Joseph Haydn will be performed April 7 [THURSDAY] in a concert by the East Central University Chorale and the ECU Singers. The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church and is free and open to the public.
Dr. Steve Walker is the conductor and accompanists will be pianists Dr. Starla Hibler and Rudy Lupinski.
The University Chorale will open with “Ave Maria” by Rudi Tass, featuring soloist Casaundra Long of Moore. Long also will conduct her own composition, “The Captive’s Song.” Also on the Chorale’s program is “Decision” by Desra Scroggins, to be conducted by Luke Smith of Holdenville; Chanson Éloignée by Morten Lauridsen and “The Luckiest” by Ben Folds, arranged by Rudy Lupinski.
The ECU Singers will perform Tori Davison’s and Rudy Lupinski’s “Veni Sancte Spiritas,” with accompaniment by Rebekah Unruh, piccolo; Whitney Beck, flute; Nathan Sheeley, clarinet; and Kayla Franco, clarinet.
Dr. Melody Baggech will be the soloist for “Mass No. 6 in G (Missa Sancti Nicolai),” written in 1772 by Franz Joseph Haydn. It is one of comparatively few choral works that he wrote before he was 50.
The autographed manuscript of the “St. Nicholas Mass” and all the original orchestral parts were found intact in the Esterhazy archives at Eisenstadt Castle.
