East Central University has announced its new faculty along with staff/administrative appointments for 2015-16.

Nicholas Demetriades

Instructor/Librarian

Demetriades earned his bachelor of arts in history from Marist College in 2010 and his master of science in information science from the University at Albany in 2014. From May 2013 to December 2014, he worked as a technical processing assistant at the New York State Library’s Cataloging Department.  Additionally, he served an internship at the M.E. Grenander Archives at the University at Albany from August to December 2014, working on a metadata project. Both experiences will serve him well as the technical services librarian in Linscheid Library. 

Megan Dilday

Instructor of Nursing

Dilday earned a bachelor of science in Nursing from East Central University in 2007. She is certified as a registered nurse (RN). Dilday has both acute medical-surgical and community health nursing experience. She has been employed as a level 2 clinic nurse at the Pottawatomie County Health Department in Shawnee since 2008. Previously, she served as an RN at Holdenville General Hospital from 2007-08.

Jody Alford

Instructor of Psychology

Alford earned a bachelor of science and master of science in psychological services from East Central University.  She has held adjunct and full-time instructor positions teaching psychology courses at ECU for the past 10 years.

June Caruthers

Instructor of Education

Caruthers earned a bachelor of science in elementary education from East Central University and a master of science in elementary education (reading concentration) from the University of Central Oklahoma. Caruthers holds teaching certification in elementary education and has produced a successful career as a classroom teacher in the Oklahoma public school system.  Additionally, she has been an adjunct instructor for ECU for two years, receiving outstanding evaluations from her students.

Kara Cloud

Lecturer of Sociology

Cloud earned her bachelor of arts in interdisciplinary studies from Oklahoma Baptist University (2002) and a master of arts in cultural anthropology from the University of Houston (2008).  She has been an adjunct faculty member at ECU in the sociology department since 2009.  Since fall 2008, she has been the choral director for Pauls Valley Junior High/High School.  Previously, Cloud was a graduate teaching assistant for the anthropology department at the University of Houston.

Jennifer Dorsey

Assistant Professor of English

Dorsey earned a bachelor of arts in secondary education from Arizona State University and a master of English education from the University of Oklahoma. Dorsey is currently a candidate for the doctorate of English education from the University of Oklahoma.  She has completed her coursework and is currently working on her dissertation.  She anticipates defending her dissertation in 2016.  Dorsey has 13 years of public school experience, teaching language arts to grades 7-12.  She also has experience teaching advanced placement and the International Baccalaureate English curriculum at the high school level.  At the university level, Dorsey has taught first year-composition since August 2014 at the University of Oklahoma as a graduate assistant instructor. 

Luann Evert

Instructor of Nursing

Evert earned her bachelor of science in nursing and master of nursing practice and nursing education degrees from Fort Hays State University.  She was a nursing instructor at East Central University from 2003-2014.  She has most recently worked for Mercy Hospital as an advanced practice nurse.

Delaney Galloway

Instructor of Kinesiology

Galloway earned a bachelor of science in Athletic Training from Oklahoma State University in 2013 and her master of education in secondary education – sports administration from East Central University in 2015. Her athletic trainer certification is from the National Athletic Trainers’ Association. She has held this certification since 2013.  Galloway served as a graduate assistant at ECU from 2013-15. During this time, she aided in athletic training coverage for all intercollegiate sports and worked with all athletic training education program students in various classroom settings, especially directing their learning in clinical courses.

Dr. Carl Gilbert

Dean, College of Health and Sciences

Gilbert earned his bachelor of science in zoology (1992) and master of science (1999) and a doctor of philosophy (2003) in food safety and microbiology from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, Ark. Gilbert served as professor and dean of the college of sciences at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor since 2012. Prior to that appointment he was associate professor and secondary science education coordinator from 2006-12 and science department head from 2007-10 and head of biological sciences from 2010-12 at the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith. From 2003-06, he was assistant professor of biology at the University of Louisiana at Monroe. In 2002-13, Gilbert was a research specialist at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville and from 1993-98, he taught science at Van Buren Public Schools.

Dr. Jennifer Griffith

Assistant Professor of Business Administration

Dr. Griffith earned her bachelor of arts in psychology (2008), master of science in industrial/organizational psychology (2011) and doctor of philosophy in industrial/organizational psychology (2013) from the University of Oklahoma. Griffith taught as an assistant professor of management at Alfred University since 2013. From 2012-13, she served as an adjunct instructor at the University of Central Oklahoma. She currently has four articles under review for publication and three articles accepted for publication in the area of leadership, emotion and communication. 

Dr. Alisha Howard

Assistant Professor of Biology

Dr. Howard earned a bachelor of science in biochemistry, bachelor of science in chemistry and a Ph.D. in biochemistry and molecular biology from Oklahoma State University.  She has spent the past five years as a post-doctoral research scientist at Colorado State University.  Her research has led to several publications and presentations in molecular biology.

Melissa Inglis

Assistant Professor of Human Resources

Inglis earned a bachelor of arts in sociology in 2008 from the University of Oklahoma and a master of arts in criminal justice management and administration in 2011 from the University of Central Oklahoma. She is currently ABD in a doctor of philosophy program in criminal justice at the University of New Haven and expects to complete her dissertation in December, 2015.  Inglis taught as a lecturer in criminal justice at the University of Central Oklahoma for the 2014-15 academic year.

Dana Jordan

Instructor of Education

Jordan earned a bachelor of education in family and consumer Science (1991) and a master of education (1999) from East Central University.  She is currently completing coursework for the doctorate of education in educational administration: curriculum supervision from the University of Oklahoma. Jordan holds teaching certification in early childhood and elementary education and has had a successful career as a classroom teacher in the Oklahoma public school system.  She has experience with grant writing, event facilitation and workshop presentations.

Laura M. Kincheloe

Instructor of Nursing

Kincheloe earned her bachelor of science in nursing and master of science in nursing from Angelo State University in San Angelo, Texas. She is a Registered Nurse (RN) in both Texas and Oklahoma. She has expressed interest in starting work on a doctorate.  Kincheloe taught nursing at Grayson College in Denison, Texas from 2013-2015. In addition since 2011, she worked as a RN and charge nurse on renal and oncology nursing unit at the Texoma Medical Center in Denison. Previously, she worked as a nurse technician from 2010-11 at Shannon Medical Center in San Angelo, Texas. Kincheloe is a native of Georgetown, Texas.

Dr. Jessica A. Koch

Assistant Professor of Education

Dr. Koch earned her bachelor of science in elementary education at Auburn University in 2003. She earned her master of education in educational leadership at Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville, Tenn., in 2006 and an education specialist degree from Union University in Hendersonville, Tenn. She holds an administrator certification for pre-kindergarten through 12th grade in Oklahoma and a professional teacher certification in Tennessee.  Koch taught graduate level courses for Columbus State University from 2012-15 and has extensive public school teaching experience. Her husband is Chris Koch of Shawnee.

Alice McEachern

Instructor of Nursing

McEachern earned her bachelor of science in nursing from East Central University in 2003. She is certified as a Registered Nurse (RN).  McEachern has a strong background in medical-surgical nursing, including full-time instruction at the LPN level and adjunct clinical instruction in associate degree programs. She has been employed at Grayson College, Van Alstyne campus in Texas since 2011 as an instructor. In addition, McEachern worked as a full-time staff RN at Texoma Medical Center in Dennison, Texas from 2011-14. Previously, she held RN positions at Centennial Medical Center, Nashville, Tenn. (2008), Vanderbilt University Hospital, Nashville, Tenn. (2007-08), River Park Hospital, McMinnville, Tenn. (2007), and at Texoma Medical Center, Denison, Texas and Medical Center of Southeastern Oklahoma in Durant, 2003-07.

Dr. April Nesbit

Assistant Professor of Biology

Nesbit earned a bachelor of science in biochemistry from Texas Tech University and a doctorate of philosophy in biomolecular chemistry at the University of Wisconsin at Madison.  She was a post-doctoral fellow at Indiana University at Bloomington and for the last two years has been a visiting assistant professor of microbiology at Purdue University, North Central.

Steven Pedersen

Lecturer of English

Pedersen earned his bachelor of arts and master of arts in English from the University of San Diego. Pedersen is currently a candidate for the doctorate of English at Oklahoma State University.  He has taught college composition courses as a graduate assistant at San Diego State University and Oklahoma State University.  He has also taught as an adjunct instructor at East Central University.  Pedersen has most recently been working at ECU as the assistant director of the Native American Serving Non-Tribal Institution Research Grant.

Dr. Mary Ann Remshardt

Lecturer of Nursing

Remshardt earned her doctor of education in secondary and higher education from Texas A & M University in 2002.  She also has a master of science degree in nursing from Texas Woman’s University and a bachelor of science degree in nursing from Montana State University.  She has been a registered nurse since 1969. Remshardt served as a fulltime clinical instructor in the spring 2015 semester.  She also held the position of assistant professor at East Central University from 2003 through 2008 and taught at Grayson Community College in Texas for 20 years. 

Susan D. Shalver

Instructor of Nursing

Shalver earned her bachelor of science in nursing from East Central University in 2001 and master of science in nursing/education specialist from the University of Phoenix in 2013. She is a registered nurse (RN) in Oklahoma and a nationally-certified emergency nurse (CEN). Shalver has extensive experience in nursing practice and teaching. Since 2012, she has been a clinical education specialist, coordinating and teaching in the Training Center at Mercy Hospital in Ardmore and from 2011-12. She was a staff RN at Mercy Hospital in Ardmore. She served as a clinical nursing instructor for ECU from 2011-2013. Previously she worked as an RN at the Norman Regional Health System and Pauls Valley General Hospital.

Nancy C. Sweeney

Instructor of Nursing

Sweeney earned her bachelor of science in nursing from East Central University in 2001 and her master of science in nursing from the University of Phoenix in 2014. She is certified as a hospice, palliative registered nurse (CHPN), a certified hospice educator, End-of-Life Nursing Education Consortium trainer and was formerly certified as a wound, ostomy nurse. Sweeney was honored by the D! Magazine Nursing Excellence Awards in March 2014 as a finalist representing the best of her specialty, palliative care. She has directed hospice and palliative programs in several large tertiary medical centers in Dallas, including VA North Texas Health Care System and Methodist Healthsystem, and most recently served as a service line director for East Texas Medical Center.

Jeanene Taylor

Lecturer of Human Resources

Taylor earned her bachelor of arts in human resources counseling at East Central University in 1993 and master of science in human resources – rehabilitation counseling at ECU in 1995. She is a certified vocational rehabilitation counselor (CRC). Taylor taught primarily undergraduate courses in the ECU Human Resources Department since 1999 as a part-time instructor. Taylor held a temporary Lecturer position in the Human Resources Department in the spring 2013 semester, the spring 2014 semester, and the 2014-15 academic year. From 1999-2013, she taught as a part-time instructor for the Human Resources Department during various semesters. Since 2004, Taylor has been owner of Taylor Consulting Firm which specializes in vocational rehabilitation counseling. From 1998-2003, she was director of the vocational department at Midlands Injury Management and from 1992-94, she was a counselor at the Family Crisis Center in Ada.

Pamela Williamson

Instructor of Human Resources

Williamson earned a bachelor of social work from East Central University in 1999 and a master of social work from the University of Oklahoma in 2002. Williamson served as field instructor for the ECU Social Work program and was a guest lecturer in several social work classes. From 2013 to the present, she has been employed as a child welfare specialist supervisor by the Oklahoma Department of Human Services in Ada. Previously, she served as a child welfare specialist I, II and III from 2000-13.

Wendy McKibben

Instructional Designer

McKibben earned her associate in arts degree at Seminole State College and bachelor of arts and a master of education degrees at East Central University.  McKibben served the Linscheid Library at ECU as a circulation assistant from 2013-15.

Leah Lyon

Director, Office of Sponsored Programs and Research

Lyon holds a bachelor of science and a Master of Education from East Central University.  Since October 2010, Lyon has been the director of the ECU Safety Training and Technical Assistance for Administrators, Boards, and Law Enforcement Campus Program.  Previously, she served as director of the Regional University System of Oklahoma Violence Prevention Project at ECU from 2007-13.  From 2006-07, she was project coordinator for the ECU Campus Initiative to Reduce Crime against Women (CIRCAW) and was administrative assistant/project coordinator for the ECU Tribal Police Training Program from 2005-06.
