The Ramadan family of Ada meets with East Central University student Tobey Hatton (front row, far right) and his family to announce Hatton as the first recipient of the Dr. Raniyah Ramadan Scholarship. The family established the scholarship through the ECU Foundation Inc. in memory of their daughter, Raniyah, who was a research scientist in neuro-opthalmology when she died in July 2011 at age 34. The new scholarship will aid ECU juniors or seniors who plan a career in research or the medical profession. Hatton, of Pauls Valley, is majoring in biology/pre-dentistry. Participating in the presentation were ECU President John Hargrave (front row, from left), parents Siham and Dr. Tawfik Ramadan, Hatton and (back row) sisters Salam, Deemah, Shadin and Suha Ramadan and Hattons’s parents, Shelia and Paul Hatton. Dr. Tawfik Ramadan provides campus health services for ECU students. Siham Ramadan and three of her children are ECU graduates.
