Dr. Katricia Pierson, assistant vice president for academic affairs at East Central University, has been accepted as a reviewer in the Peer Corps of the Higher Learning Commission. The HLC, which is based in Chicago, accredits more than 1,000 colleges and universities in 19 states, including Oklahoma. Pierson will complete her training this fall and participate in follow-up webinars and annual training. Each year she will visit one or two universities that are similar to ECU. “A great thing about being a peer reviewer is that I will be able to learn about other institutions similar to ECU and share that knowledge with people on our campus,” Pierson said. After serving a three-year term, she will be eligible for appointment to a five-year term. Pierson came to ECU in July 2011 after serving since 2008 as associate dean of academic assessment at William Woods University in Fulton, Mo. She had taught at William Woods since 2004 and had been chair of the Science and Humanities Division and director of the university honors program. Pierson previously taught English from 2001 to 2004 at Pikeville College in Kentucky.
