ADA, Okla. – For three years, US Sen. James Inhofe hosted Ulrich Fellows in his Washington, D.C., congressional office. The Ulrich Fellowship was created by the Ulrich Family and ECU Foundation, Inc., when beloved Professor of Political Science Dr. John J. Ulrich passed away.

A committee of experts who knew Ulrich well selected the Ulrich Fellow through a competitive process. These students were able to intern for Senator Inhofe in Washington, D.C. for a semester. Their transportation and lodging expenses were covered by the Ulrich Fellowship.

Legal Studies major, Hannah Hale Fields, was the first student selected in 2016. Of the experience, she says, “We could definitely agree on one thing— our love for Oklahoma. This feels like a lifetime ago, but I will always hold a special place in my heart for my time in DC and the growth it gave me.” After graduating from ECU, Fields attended law school at Oklahoma City University School of Law and she is now a practicing attorney in Oklahoma City.

Political Science major, Jack Langley, was the second Ulrich Fellow. He says, “Working for Senator Inhofe as an Ulrich Fellow gave me an opportunity of a lifetime as a small-town kid from Oklahoma. May his family find peace after his passing.” Langley joined the US Marine Corps after graduating from ECU.

ECU double major in Political Science and Legal Studies Anna Wood was the third Ulrich Fellow who worked with Senator Inhofe. She says, “I’m grateful for the kindness he and his staff showed me while I was there.” She attended University of Oklahoma College of Law and currently is an attorney with Legal Shield in Ada.

ECU is actively raising funds to continue the Ulrich Fellowship. With several donors already committed, ECU is dedicated to pursuing the continued success and impact of this initiative.
