SHOWTIME, East Central University's musical theatre performing group, will present its Grand Finale' concert/cabaret "thank you New York" program at 8 p.m. Friday [APRIL 30] in the Estep Multimedia Center in the Bill S. Cole University Center.
The group also will show slides and video from their trip to New York City where SHOWTIME members studied at Julliard and New York University, the sights they saw and what they brought back.
"We will specifically thank our donors and moral supporters, too," said Patrick Sweet, director of music theatre. "It took a village to get us there and now, they will be our honored guests."
The students needed about $8,000 to cover travel and lodging expenses as well as clinician and workshop fees for the trip from March 30 to April 4. Students paid for their own meals, local transportation and other expenses.
Sweet is a graduate of NYU. His connections created the opportunity to set up the study program.
He said a new cabaret tradition starting this year will be to showcase some of the new cast members who will be in next year's group.
