Two East Central University graduates have received the High School Teachers of the Year Award for Oklahoma from the Arkansas-Oklahoma-Kansas Section Meeting of the American Association of Physics Teachers.
Tim Claxton and Sue Ellen (McFarlane) Frerichs received plaques for excellence in physics education.
Frerichs graduated from ECU in 1989 and teaches pre-engineering at Gordon Cooper Technology Center in Shawnee. She was nominated for the award by coworkers. Claxton, who was nominated by former students and employees, graduated from ECU in 2005 and teaches physics and math at Vanoss High School.
The annual AAPT meeting rotates among the three states and was held this year at Rose State College in Midwest City.
